I'm sure we are all aware of the suffering and conflict in Syria and the looming possibility of more military action. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, made a special appeal to everyone last Sunday to observe a day of prayer and fasting for peace with these words:
"I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world, and I also invite each person, including our fellow Christians, followers of other religions and all men of good will, to participate, in whatever way they can, in this initiative."

Please join me in observing this day of prayer and fasting on the eve of the feast day of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary this coming Saturday, September 7. Immediately after the 4:15 PM Mass I will lead a special Rosary for peace in the left transept of the Church near the statue of the Blessed Mother.
