Pastor's Corner, September 1, 2013

Dear Parishioners and Friends,
We conclude this series of Pastor’s Corner on the gifts of the Holy Spirit with a few words about wisdom.
Thanks to the gift of wisdom the soul acquires an incredibly strong supernatural sense. With the help of this gift we can see and judge every situation not in a human way but from the point of view of God. With this gift the Holy Spirit helps us contemplate divine things and to grow in union with God. With this gift, even an “uneducated soul” can possess the most profound knowledge of the divine.
Wisdom gives us the ability to see our personal joys and sorrows, the pleasures and pains, successes and failures of our life within the divine perspective. At the same time we see that same providential hand guiding the big events of history by which the Lord God rules and governs the world.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are without question great gifts essential for our sanctification and salvation. Each baptized and confirmed Christian should implore the Holy Spirit to inflame in his soul these gifts. All of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit work together in our soul to make us saints. These gifts build on one another in a beautiful way: through the fear of the Lord, we rise to piety, from piety then to knowledge, from knowledge we derive strength, from strength counsel, with counsel we move towards understanding, and with intelligence towards wisdom.
In Christ,
Msgr. Baker
